On 27th July Norwich School pupil George McKean (M5R) achieved a podium place in the Artistic Roller Skating British Nationals.
George, who is also a keen rower, traveled to Kettering to compete in the competition:
"I was competing in both the free and figures category. Figures involves tracing 2 circles, doing edges and turns without coming off the line. I performed off forward left foot insides and right foot free turns. In the afternoon I performed my free programme which comprised a 2 minute program set to music and full of jumps, spins and choreography. However due to the floor being wooden I was not familiar with the floor, but it did provide an extra bit of spring which helped with the jumps. In the free I was able to achieve 3rd place in my age group and was awarded a bronze medal. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and was very surprised to achieve podium. It was very moving as I have now retired from roller skating to focus on my rowing."
Congratulations to George for his fantastic achievement.
