IWD22: Beau, Lower School Captain

As part of our International Women's Day celebrations, we have been hearing from members of our School community, past and present. As we heard from first female Captain of Lower School, Lauren, it also seemed fitting to catch up with our current Lower School Captain, Beau:

Hello my name is Beau and I have important responsibilities in the Lower School being School Captain. The main part of my role is to assist in deciding and planning events such as charity fundraisers. I also act as the voice of the Lower School pupils in the school council and leading pupils in school celebrations.

This September I will be moving up to the Senior School.  Although I will no longer be Lower School Captain I hope to be involved again in the School Council as I have enjoyed this privilege very much. When I reach the age where I can do so, I sincerely hope to be Captain of the Senior School, but with the greater responsibility this holds.

Emmeline Pankhurst is one of my most inspirational figures.  As a women’s rights activist she and her daughters held protests and marches including outside Buckingham Palace and on Downing Street.  She was arrested and later released after which she toured the USA and Canada raising money for her suffragettes.  After her death in 1928 women in the UK were granted suffrage.

I believe International Women’s Day is an important day to remind us all that women have not always had equality in the past but that sadly this is also still happening in some countries around the world today.  All of these women past and present thoroughly deserve this important day dedicated to them.

One of my proudest moments was receiving my School Captain badge in the school assembly.  Above all I am proud to be a pupil at such an amazing school having joined in Lower Two.

One piece of advice that I would give other girls would be:

‘Never settle with anything lower than your best’

‘If you always do what you have always done then you will only have what you have always had'
