Lower School brings a spectacular Summer Concert to St Andrews Hall

14 June 2023

Last night, pupils from the Lower School took part in the Trinity Summer Concert at St Andrews Hall in Norwich and what a fantastic evening of music making it was featuring School Choir, Chamber Choir, Little Voices Group, Reception, Lower 1 and Upper 1 vocal ensembles and for the first time a combined choir of Upper 3 & Lower 4 pupils from the Senior School performing Seasons of Love from the Musical ‘Rent’.

The Lower School instrumental ensembles were on show too, with the String Ensemble bringing some Celtic flavour, Recorder Group adding some Calypso, Film music from ‘The Mind Blowers’ wind group, some cool Caribbean Reggae from the Steel Pans, a new work for the Stickers Percussion Ensemble written by Colin Shaw, a Cantata by JS Bach from the Clarinet Group and some Country and Rock N Roll from the Guitar Group all enthusiastically appreciated by the well-attended audience in the Hall

Stand out choral performances included the haunting ‘Murasame Noh’ complete with rainsticks and sung in Japanese beautifully by the Little Voices Group, Eric Whitacre’s ‘Seal Lullaby’ with ethereal descants by Chamber Choir, the poignant ‘Sometimes I wonder’ by Mark and Helen Johnson performed by Upper 1 vocal ensemble with cello soloists and the crowd pleasing energetic African piece ‘Kye Kye Kule’ by School Choir arranged by Greg Gilpin and Noel Vine.

Head of Music Mr Vine said ‘What an incredible evening! It was really warm in the Hall but some of the pieces performed sent shivers, as they were so beautiful and really captivated the audience. I am so pleased and proud of each and every pupil that worked so hard and took part in last night’s concert. It was truly a spectacular celebration of the wonderful music that we make together all year round in the Lower School. My thanks, as always go to the Visiting Music Tutors who take charge of the various ensembles that we have here and also a big thank you to our piano accompanists Mr Jolly and Mr Carroll. Bravo to all!’
