Author Visit: Ivan Bates and 'Keep Up Duck!'

22 April 2024

On Monday 22 April we were delighted to welcome author and illustrator Ivan Bates to Norwich Lower School for a captivating event based around his latest book, Keep Up Duck! Reception and Lower One pupils were treated to an immersive experience filled with creativity and storytelling.

One of the highlights of the interactive session was a draw along. Ivan guided the eager young artists through the process of drawing their very own ducks, based on the character of Puck the duck, from his book.

Following this, the adventure continued outdoors with a thrilling duck hunt in the Infant garden. Pupils embraced the spirit of exploration, searching for hidden ducks while eagerly anticipating the unfolding story.

Back indoors, Ivan gave a lively reading of Keep Up Duck, with actions and phrases for pupils to join in with. His storytelling powers brought the characters to life, captivating the young listeners from start to finish.

At lunchtime Ivan also generously shared his expertise with budding writers during a visit to the school library. Pupils seized the opportunity to ask questions and gain valuable insights into the creative process behind storytelling and illustrating. Armed with newfound knowledge, they are now inspired to craft their own tales for the upcoming Lower School book of Short Stories.

Ivan Bates' visit was not only a celebration of literature and illustration but also a reminder of the power of storytelling to ignite imaginations and foster creativity.
