Celebrating Poetry Day!
October 3, 2024
On Thursday, 3 October, we opened National Poetry Day with a special assembly where pupils from Lower 1 to Lower 3 confidently recited poems on this year’s theme of Counting in their forms to the rest of the school. This was followed by a well-attended lunchtime event in the library – a fun-filled poetry quiz! Pupils from across all year groups had the chance to take part during lunchtime, diving into the world of verse and rhyme.
The quiz took an exciting turn as students roamed the school, hunting down hidden poems. They were tasked with jotting down the first lines of these poems or discovering who wrote their favourite ones. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore different styles of poetry and learn more about famous poets in a fun, engaging way.
The atmosphere was lively, with pupils eagerly participating and working together to track down the poetic clues scattered throughout the school. By the end of the lunchtime event, the students had not only expanded their knowledge of poetry but also enjoyed themselves along the way.
To top it all off, the winners from each year group were awarded a special prize by Mr Ingham – golden stationery! These prizes were a fitting reward for the enthusiasm and effort shown by all who took part in the quiz.
Over the half-term break, we are inviting pupils to write their own poem along the theme of Counting. Whether it is interpreted as being numerical, trustworthy or making a stand is purely up to the poet! Submissions welcomed by Mrs Hewitt by the 11 November.
