Congratulations to our ON sailing team led by Jamie Manners (93-00), for securing second place at the J80 Arrow Trophy event on Sunday at Queen Mary Reservoir.

The team: Jamie Manners, Jon Gent (86-93), Ben Pond (05-14), Tim Koch (14-16) and Jonas Osborn (07-14) travelled down to Queen Mary Reservoir to race against teams from Tonbridge, Shewsbury, Marlborough, Roedean, Malvern College, Harrow and Bryanston. 

In tough conditions which led to the Bryanston team having 2 sailors go overboard in the first race, extremely close racing ensued in particular between our ONs, the Old Tonbridgians’ and Old Salopians’ from Shrewsbury School. 

It was a nail biting start with inches separating the boats lead to battles of wits to force opposition boats out of the way to round the windward marks.

At the end of the day, after 6 close races, our ON team came in with a hard-fought-for second place closely behind the crew from the Old Tonbridgian Sailing Association. 

An excellent day was had by all, a huge thank you to Jamie Manners for masterminding our entry and to all the team for taking part!
