Tickets available for Norwich School Chamber Choir Concert

15 February 2022

Norwich School's newly formed Chamber Choir are getting ready for a concert at Thorpe Parish Church on Thursday 24 March.

The Norwich School Chamber Choir was formed in 2021. The ensemble, currently formed of 13 pupils, provides the School's highest-level choral singers the opportunity to tackle complex repertoire in a small group. Many of these pupils wish to continue singing beyond school, to be a choral scholar at university, or work on the back row of a cathedral choir. This year we have tackled a wide variety of repertoire. In addition to perfecting many well-known canticles, responses and anthems of the English Choral Tradition, the group has explored a plethora of seldom-performed works, including a focus on those by female composers and composers of colour.

An Evening with the Norwich School Chamber Choir presents a varied selection of unaccompanied choral repertoire, which spans from the sixteenth century to the present day.

The programme will be as follows:

Hail gladdening light - Charles Wood (1866-1926)

God so loved the world - John Stainer (1840-1901)

Upon your heart - Eleanor Daley (b. 1955)

Ne irascaris domine - Civitas sancti tui - William Byrd (c.1540-1623)

We shall walk through the valley in peace - Undine Smith Moore (1904-1989)

Rest - Ken Burton (b.1970)

Nunc dimittis - Gustav Holst (1874-1934)

A hyme to Christ - Imogen Holst (1907-1984)

The gallant weaver - Sir James MacMillan (b.1959)

Shenandoh - James Erb (1926-2014)

You are warmly invited to join them at Thorpe Parish Church (Yarmouth Road, NR7 0EW) at 7pm on Thursday 24th of March. Doors will open at 6.30pm and the concert will be followed by refreshments for anyone who wishes to stay.
