The Junior Dance and Drama Showcase Was Truly Unstoppable

13 December 2023

The Junior Dance Show was the second half of the Junior Dance and Drama Showcase that included the junior play, 'Dreamcatchers' and many performances from over 100 pupils ranging from L3 to M5. I performed in this show and some personal highlights were Boys Dance, the finale Newsies piece and a piece by the L5 creative dance class. Throughout the show, the audience were treated to many different styles and groups dancing to an incredible standard. This was all thanks to the hard work of the organisers, choreographers, stage team and of course the performers who spent a great part of their term relentlessly rehearsing and cleaning the numbers.

The show was performed on two nights the Monday the 11th and Tuesday the 12th of December, and both nights sold out of tickets leading to two full houses in our own Blake Studio. The show also included 4 student choreographed solos performed by Zara Mace, Ethan Tam, Rory Evans, and Aggie Johnson. These pieces, as well as being brilliantly performed, were entirely pupil-choreographed, the four of them should be very proud of what they produced. One factor that set this show apart from previous performances at the school was the inclusion of tricks learned by performers over the past months. This led to students turning, tumbling and tricking across the stage in multiple dances, and this was enjoyed by all participating and viewing.

My favourite part of the show was the boys dance group and their piece ‘Unstoppable’. Over the last term, boys from U4 to M5 had been practicing relentlessly. The boys bonded and befriended each other over this time, leading to a piece that showed the skill, artistry, and brotherhood of the group. The performance was a powerful dance with tricks, unison, call and response and many more exciting dynamics coming together to form a truly “Unstoppable” mix.

To conclude, this show was incredible not only to watch but also to perform. In my 3 years dancing, this show has really stood out as one of the highlights.
