The annual Norwich Cathedral Choir Pancake Race returns!

03 March 2022

This year saw the return of the popular Norwich Cathedral Choir Pancake Races. Jemima Curtis (M5) reports:

The annual Norwich Cathedral Choir Pancake Races took place on Shrove Tuesday, March 1st 2022 and it is always a joy to participate in for both the boy and girl choristers. They take place in the cathedral cloister and friends and family are invited to come and watch the brilliantly fun and sometimes feisty (!) races, often in slippery conditions in the middle of the cloister.

The choristers who run in year groups - boys and girls separately - must flip their pancake at least once and sprint around a simple track, of course driven by the reward of pancakes at the end. There is a hotly contested cathedral staff and parents race as well, which the choristers love cheering on.

This year, the pancakes and toppings were kindly provided by Norwich School catering staff who set up a mini kitchen in the cloister garth  - delicious, freshly made pancakes more than made up for running around in choir robes!
