Speaking of Skiing - ESSkiA

15 October 2023

Over the weekend the U19 boys and girls teams both took part in 2 races for the English finals of the ESSkiA schools race held at Norfolk Snowsports Club in Trowse.

On Saturday, the boys were 1st in the U19 category, and overall, with the girls unfortunately not placing due to not enough racers not completing the course – a common occurrence across both days for all teams. On Sunday it was the Open Finals. The boys team of Toby Watson, George Snelling, Tristan Mackay and Rufus Snelling retained the title they won last year with all four contributing times towards the victory and are rewarded with a trip to Scotland next month for the British finals. The girls team of Antonia Watson, Mirabelle Harden, Sophie Slinger and Ella Barnovschi placed 11th, respectable given the relative inexperience and young age of the team.

In the individual competition, Toby was the fastest overall male by 0.01 seconds, Rufus 8th and Tristan 22nd out of a field of nearly 90. Antonia Watson was fastest overall female by a more comfortable 0.79 seconds, impressive for a Lower 5 pupil in a race that includes up to Upper 6th form.
