semble by Louise Richardson, a new exhibition in the Crypt

11 May 2023

There is a new exhibition in the Crypt gallery which will run from 11th to 23rd May and is open from 11am-4.30pm. Local artist Louise Richardson has titled the exhibition ‘Semble’ meaning ‘it seems or appears to be’ as she experiments with the concepts of identity, memory and folklore.

In her own words, her art is about “storytelling and evoking ideas with materials that run parallel with the stories.” Louise uses a range of materials from book pages to feathers to old garments to seashells. Take for example, her piece titled ‘Drift’ (below), one of her particular favourites in the collection, which plays with the idea of jewellery and decoration through the use of limpet shells, sea glass and pearls which Louise has collected from Norfolk beaches. She layers this on top of material and incorporates photographs. Louise also combines together book pages with other materials and objects. Do head to the Crypt Gallery over the coming days to see her fascinating artwork for yourself.
