Rowing Report For The Michaelmas Term

15 December 2023

The start of the Rowing year saw the first events taking place in unseasonably warm dry weather, with 8 Senior Boys racing in London at the Pairs Head and 48 rowers compete in 46 events at Bedford Head.

Unfortunately the weather since has led to most races being cancelled due to flooding, except for Ely Head, with the senior Girls and Boys racing, with the Senior Girls coxed 4 winning their category.

Following the cancellation of Star Head, which would have been the first race for our J14s, we held an impromptu Time Trial, which gave a small taste of racing for the younger crews.

A successful Yare Eights Invitational Head had 13 eights from Norwich School, Norwich High, UEA and two local clubs. The 2 senior boys matched Eights had just 3 seconds separating them after 12 minutes, and it was great to have a Senior and J15 Girls Eights racing.

3 rowers were due to attend GB U19 trials, but with these also cancelled due to the wind, a pair was invited to attend the GB U19 Training Day. Daniel Conway and Daniel White both raced well with the higher rate pieces suiting them better. Their next stage of the Trials process is to achieve the cut off time for the 5k Ergo.

Despite the weather, the Boat Club has covered many miles in training on and off the water and hope that we will be back to racing our full programme in the Lent Term.
