Rowing Report

24 March 2023

On 20 March, just two days after the Head of the River Race, crews from L5 to U6 travelled to Eton Dorney to compete in the annual Scullery Head Race.

Held on the London 2012 Olympic rowing course, the race was 3.8km long and a technical challenge for all the Rowers. Despite the bad weather and challenging wind conditions all crews performed brilliantly on the national stage.

The J18 coxless quad had an excellent row, to finish an exceptional 7th in the Country.

The Womans J18 and J16 coxless quads performed well, placing 24th and 32nd respectively, beating some of the crews that had beaten them earlier in the year.

The lower 5’s raced two girls octo’s and a boys octo.   This is only the second race for many of the rowers, so it was very much in at the deep end on the national stage, and they performed brilliantly.

The boys boat raced well in the first half of the race placing them in the top 10.  An oar snapped in the second half, leaving seven able rowers to finish the race, which they did valiantly, placing 20th out of 40 boats drawing level with Bedford School.

And finally, the two Womans J14 Octos produced some impressive results, placing 7th and 17th , an incredible achievement considering this was for some their first race, and a delight to see so many girls rowing.

Well done to all involved!
