Pupils Involved in Virtual Reality Filming Project

24 February 2022

In early February Drama pupils were involved in a 360-degree filming project with Curious Spark at The Great Hospital. They played the children of the school who presented gifts to Elizabeth I when she came to visit Norwich in 1578. They were the Gods and Goddesses who blessed the queen.

Upper 5 pupil, Olivia Massey, has shared her experience of the day:

In Norwich, on the 21st August 1578, Queen Elizabeth the First was visiting The Bishop’s Palace to attend a magnificent performance called 'The Gift-Giving Masque' (hosted by Master Goldingham) where she was presented with gifts by Gods and Goddesses. Once we got cast, rehearsals went underway. We had to practice walking in a room to music whilst being in character and presenting ‘our’ gifts!

I was most excited about the project when I learnt that it would be filmed so you could watch it in VR! It was such a good experience to be involved in something so different.

When it came down to the filming process, we had to film at the Great Hospital. We ran through our scene a couple of times so that they knew where to put the camera and microphones. Then, we filmed it and I think we did 4 takes! It was such a great experience to meet the other cast members and the extras (who had the most incredible costumes!)

It has been amazing to be involved with the film! We all enjoyed the whole experience from auditioning, to filming!
