Norwich School wins the highly acclaimed Fastest School at the ERSA Schools Race

02 May 2017

Norwich School entered 5 teams into the Eastern Region Snowsports Association Schools Championship event on an extremely busy (and long) day at Norfolk Snowsports Centre. Around 400 athletes attended the biggest ever ERSA Schools Race on a fine spring day.

The Lower School teams

This was the first competition for many of our Lower School skiers.

U10 girls consisted of India Fox, Mirabelle Harden, Florianna Harrod and Freya Hockings. All skied well and the team finished 2nd in the U10s female category.

U12 boys was a very young team for the U12 category made up of Sam O'Shea, Sam Curtis, James Pendleton and Tom Irving. They came extremely close to medalling, finishing 4th out of 13 teams – making the U12 boys the biggest category of the day.

The Senior School Teams

The three Senior School teams were:

U14 males: Harvey Fisher, Rohan Chauhan, Hamish Collen and Alex Ogden

U16 mixed: Jack Minns, Herbie Hilyer, Alice Palmer and Natalie Chalk

U19 males: Rowan Warsop, Joe Wales, Jack O'Shea and Josh Kohler.

The teams included six experienced racers and six skiers relatively new to competitions.

The course was challenging for new and experienced skiers alike, but nevertheless, there were some great individual performances from Norwich School out of about 400 racers who attended from all over the country. These included:

• Alex Ogden coming first out of all the U14s and 9th overall

• Rohan Chauhan and Harvey Fisher narrowly missed out on the podium with 4th and 5th U14

• Rowan Warsop was the second fastest U19 male and the overall second fastest person of the day

• Joe Wales was 4th fastest U19 male and came 6th overall

The U14 male team won their category by an incredibly large margin of 27 seconds.

Unfortunately both the U19 males and U16 mixed were unlucky not to finish the race with qualifying times.

Thanks to great individual performances from a range of skiers, Norwich School won the highly acclaimed Fastest School for the overall competition.

Congratulations to all who took part in racing in such a large race and thank you for the great support from Mr Cowan and Jo Ogden in ensuring the school was able to enter such a large number of talented athletes.
