Norwich School Opera Presents A Very Special Production

07 February 2023

Following on from the success of their production of Marriage of Figaro in 2020, Norwich School Opera presents a semi-staged performance of Dido and Aeneas, a short Baroque opera which was first performed in London in 1689.  The story is based on Book IV of Virgil’s Aeneid and portrays the love of Dido, Queen of Carthage, for the Trojan hero Aeneas and her despair when he abandons her.

Both the chorus and principal roles will be performed by members of the School’s sixth form.  Adam Chillingworth, in the upper sixth will accompany the singers on harpsichord, a precursor to his beginning his harpsichord studies at the Royal Academy of Music in September.

Refreshments are provided and the performance time, including a short interval, will be around 90 minutes.
