Norwich School Chess Team crowned East Anglian Champions

25 March 2022

Having beaten Woodbridge and Westcliffe High in the previous two rounds, the Chess Team played the Regional Final of the National Schools' Chess Championship on Monday 21 March.

Our players faced off against Brentwood's best in six 90-minute battles. The first game to finish saw Karthik Prabhu hold his higher-graded opponent to a draw before Jack Yaxley converted a winning endgame and we were ahead. Our lead was shortly consolidated by a win from Jay Ambadkar and further hard-fought draws from Arthur Dannatt and George Taylor. Despite losing on Board 1, we came out on top with a three-and-a-half to two-and-a-half-point victory. This sees the team crowned East Anglian Champions and qualifies us for the National Finals to take place next term!
