Norwich Nucleophiles Take On The Cambridge Chemistry Race

10 February 2024

Well done to Edward Pearson, Joanna Yu, Leuka Ye, Grace Yeo and Lily Yu, who represented Norwich School in the Cambridge Chemistry Race at the Yusef Hamied Department of Chemistry in Cambridge on Saturday. Faced with a gruelling two-hour competition, they worked their way through progressively challenging questions on a wide range of topics, from analysing the metabolites in coffee and the bases in DNA bases to differentiating to determine half life radioactive decay. Like most others in the lecture theatre, the team came unstuck on a banana-based conundrum, on exploiting bananas to solve the problem with increasing fuel prices.

Together the team achieved a most respectable 78 points in total. Congratulations to all who took part.
