Netball News From The Start Of The Lent Term

15 February 2024

It has been a successful start to the Netball season, with plenty of matches, events and enjoyment.

Following an extensive programme of pre-season training in the early new year our Netballers have played a number of fixtures against local teams such as Norwich High School, Langley, St. Joe’s, Framlingham prep and Gresham’s, this included a staggering 35 matches played in the penultimate week of the half-term. Results have been really pleasing with all teams playing excellent Netball and showing great determination throughout. Much early season work was also put into preparation for the Regionals held at the end of January. This included matches against Norfolk County sides and our seniors playing the UEA with the 1st VII putting on a particularly dominant display to beat UEA 1st team 23-17. At the regionals, we were one of only 2 schools represented by teams in all three age groups. The U19s and U16s fought hard all day but frustratingly came away second best in a couple of crucial games. The U14s showed their potential with some excellent wins and a couple of hard-fought losses.

Away from the Netball matches the whole club have enjoyed several exciting opportunities this term, including the chance to watch the Nations cup live at Wembley Arena, a visit from England men’s netballer Ky Lewis, who led coaching sessions with all year groups, and a fantastic mixed House Netball competition held at the UEA for all 4th form pupils. A huge amount has been achieved this half-term and very well done to all who have made it such a success; we now look forward to more netball after half-term with exciting matches against Ipswich, Wymondham and Bedford Modern School.
