Making Musicians returns to the Cathedral for April concert

27 April 2017

Making Musicians is a series of recitals given by pupils from Norwich School and occasionally other local schools. It is an opportunity for exceptional musicians to perform in front of an audience in an intimate, but impressive setting. Admission is free and all visitors to the Cathedral are welcome to attend.

April’s concert saw George Corson (piano) and Adam King (trumpet) perform. George (L5P) is in Lower 5 (year 9) at Norwich School, where he holds a Music Scholarship for piano and saxophone. He is a member of the Norfolk Centre for Young Musicians, where he plays jazz once a week, and he has been a member of the Aldeburgh Young Musicians for the past two years. George is working towards a Diploma at the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music on piano and will be taking the grade 8 exam on Saxophone this June. He said before the performance “My favourite composer is Chopin:  as I enjoy his Romantic Era compositions for the piano. Yet, I have recently discovered that there are modern pieces which I also enjoy playing.”

Adam (U6B) is in his final year at Norwich School, taking A levels in Latin, English and History.  He was awarded his grade 8 trumpet in M5 (year 10) and is a member of the Norwich School senior orchestra, Gateway Players, as well as Senior Jazz Band.  He intends to take a gap year prior to studying English Literature at university and spend the time improving his musical abilities.

The next free Making Musicians event, held on 18th May in the North Transept of the Cathedral at 1.10pm, features guests from the City of Norwich School: Leila Hooton – flute and voice and Joanna Asher – bassoon and voice.
