On Sunday 20 February, pupils Jasmine Sargeant (U4) and Dom Walker (L5) entered and completed Waterside - a marathon kayak time trial supported by Norwich Canoe Club.

As part of the challenge, they had to paddle from Great Bedwyn to Newbury which is a distance of 21.7km (13.5 miles). This stretch of river is used as part of the gruelling Devizes to Westminster ultra-marathon and involves 21 potages (for the non-rowers amongst us, a portage is when you have to get out of your kayak, carry it and jog to clear an obstacle such as a lock).

Jasmine and Dom looked to be some of the youngest competitors undertaking the challenge and despite the inclement weather, which included rain and gusty winds, they finished in an impressive time of 2 hours 39 minutes in the mixed K2 junior category.
