Incredible Results At This Year's Chemistry Olympiad

22 April 2024

This year saw excellent participation from both Lower and Upper Sixth Chemists in the Royal Society of Chemistry's annual Olympiad competition, with our highest ever total of 29 pupils receiving awards. Whilst the competition is aimed pupils in their last year of A-levels, once again a number of Lower Sixth pupils were keen to take on the challenge, with over half of our medals being achieved by this year group.

The 2024 paper covered topics such as the composition of the FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup trophy, iodate salts, fuel-producing bacteria, the MRI contrast agent gadopiclenol and sulfur-containing molecules in the atmosphere. This year’s paper was more challenging than last year’s, which is reflected in the grade boundaries, with a decrease in the marks required to obtain each award.

Bronze medals were awarded to: Caidon Cary, Ren Damodar, Beth Herring, Georgia Hodgson, Aadith Jamadagni,  Menuka Jayakody, Rahul Kaushal, Elain Law, Angel Li, Victoria Liang, Chloe Ng, Jack Rowley, Anson Tam, Jocelyn Wong, Yuki Wong, Grace Yeo, Lily Yu, Joanna Yu

Silver medals were achieved by Alexander Brown, Matthew Coelho Bartram, Edward Pearson, Naraen Prabhakar, Sushant Singh,  Leuka Ye, Verity Youngs, and Wilson Yu .

Jay Ambadkar's score earned him a prestigious gold medal in the competition; a very impressive achievement.
