Cross Country Report: East Anglian League

15 March 2022

Saturday saw the final race in the East Anglian League and our runners were in a good position to retain many of the trophies available against runners from Gresham’s, Ipswich and RHS. The final race was held at RHS and the conditions were dry and sunny, with a little wind.

In the Junior Boys’ race Miles Alston finished the course in third place, with William Duncan and Teddy Curtis both placing well in seventh and eighth. In the Junior Girls' race we had four of the top six, with Minnie Andrews coming third, followed closely by Amelie Ivie, Jessica Bandy and Amelie Bandy. Hannah Conway also ran well against older girls to come in tenth. It was great to see such strong performances from the juniors, promising a successful future for Norwich School Cross Country. Thanks to these performances, the Junior Boys won the series Team Prize.

The Senior Boys' team were also successful, with five Norwich runners in the top seven. Gyr Balmer had the best run on the day coming second, while Freddie Power came third. Luke Fox, Daniel Collins and William Blythe-Bartram made up the rest of the winning team, ensuring they retained the Team Trophy.

Finn Kaiser was busy racing against the country's best at the Inter-Counties in Loughborough, so he missed the RHS fixture. But had already done enough to win the Junior Boys Individual Competition, with wins at Mousehold and Ipswich. Finn came 192nd out of 300 top runners at the Inter-Counties while Daniel Conway, also representing Norfolk in Loughborough, came 146th out of 256 in his race.

Well done to all those runners who have represented the School so well this season and congratulations to those whose hard work in training secured trophies for the school.
