Cross Country Pupils Compete in the East Anglian League

22 March 2023

On Saturday 18 March, pupils competed in the final race in the East Anglian League against runners from Gresham’s, Ipswich and RHS. The race was held at RHS and the conditions were drizzly and muddy, with a little wind.

In the Junior Girls’ race we had 4 of the top 5 finishers with Minnie Andrews coming out on top to win the race. Amelie Ivie, who has completed all the EAL races this year, came in 2nd and Jessica and Amelie Bandy made up the winning Junior Girls’ team.

In the Junior Boys’ race, we had 5 runners competing. First home for Norwich was Herbie Andrews who finished in 4th place. William Duncan, who has also competed in every EAL race this season, came in 5th, closely followed by Dylan Trickey, Oliver Wilson and Teddy Curtis.

In the Senior Girls’ race, we only had one runner. But that was all we needed as Bea Wells established an unassailable lead early on and again finished with a huge margin over second place. This win, together with her win at Ipswich, was enough to secure Bea the Individual EAL Champion, despite competing against girls up to two years her senior.

The final race was the Senior Boys, who had a challenging 7km course to cover. Despite injury, Freddie Mitchell came 2nd to match his 1st and 3rd place finishes in previous races. This meant that Freddie was awarded Individual EAL Champion alongside Bea. Oli New and Ben Hawkes also ran well to complete the Senior Boys’ team.

Well done to all those runners who have represented the school so well this season.
