Cricket catch-up – the latest news in boys and girls cricket

23 May 2023

It has been a very exciting week for the girl’s programme with the Girls 1st XI taking part in a very tense match against Gresham’s in the 2nd round of the National T20 competition. Batting first, we scored 125 for 1, with India Fox scoring 46 not out and Livi Hill 32.

Then, with Gresham’s on the verge of victory, some excellent fielding from the team and tight bowling from Boo Harrod and Ava Fox, soon changed the game in the girls’ favour as they edged home to a narrow but rewarding 1 run victory that now puts them into the 3rd round against of the National Competition. They will next compete against Malvern College on 23rd May.

The excitement and tension did not end there as the U15A girls took part in another close Cup encounter with Gresham’s on Thursday. With a target of 140 to win in 20 overs, a superb captain’s knock of 51 from India Fox who was well supported by Sophia Molineux’s 30, led to an epic last over that saw the teams tie. The girls narrowly missed out on progressing to the next round as Gresham’s had lost fewer wickets.

In junior cricket, mid-week matches against Gresham’s and Norwich High School were good wins for the 13B, 12A and 13C girls, providing a series of excellent results.

In terms of the boys’ teams, the 1st XI travelled to St Joseph’s after a three-week break, playing a 45 over match. St Joseph’s scored 200 for 9 in their 45 overs, with Lewis Reeder picking up a very impressive 5 for 29. On a very good batting surface, the 1st XI seemed to have the game in control, needing 40 runs in the last 10 overs with 6 wickets in hand. A dramatic collapse led to a surprising 12-run defeat. James Cross scored 56, Lewis Reeder scored 47 and Pieter de Lange scored 30.

An enthusiastic 2nd XI team also played against St Joseph’s and, batting first, raced to an impressive 203 for 5 in their 20 overs with Ben Wylie scoring 102 not out and Max Blaxell scoring 50. St Joseph’s scored 170/4 in their 20 overs ensuring a good win for our 2nd XI.

The 15A team beat St Joseph’s by 7 wickets chasing 64, with Ben Griffith’s putting in another solid all-round display of 3 for 10 and 42 not out.

The 14A boys scored 141/7, with Jack Foreman making 30 runs and in reply, bowled St Joseph’s out for 103 with Josh Duval taking 3 for 21. This ensured a solid 38 run win.

The 13A squad bounced back after their mid-week defeat to Gresham’s with a 17-run win against St Joseph’s with Ollie Longdon in the runs again with 35.

The 12A lost by 5 runs in a close match against Langley Taverham Hall, with Toby Young picking up 4 for 16 including a hat-trick.
