City Schools Cross Country Championship

17 January 2024

On Wednesday morning thirty-two runners took part in the City Schools Cross Country Championships held at Redmayne. The conditions were perfect for fast running: the air was cold, the ground was hard and there was little wind. The aim was to finish in the top 10 in order to qualify for the County Championships next week.

In the Junior Girls, 4 of our runners finished in the top 10, with our fastest runner, Emi  – racing against girls a year older than her – coming 2nd. Also qualifying were Nona Griffiths, who finished 4th, Eva Morrell in 5th and Sophie Ruddy in 7th.

In the Junior Boys, Samuel came 3rd, Jack Leary 4th and Rory Normanton 9th.

In the Intermediate Girls we had our only 1st place finisher of the day in Niamh McAuley who bravely led her 3km race from the gun and never gave up the lead. Ruby Ivie also ran a fantastic race, coming 4th

The Intermediate Boys also had two runners qualify for the next round: Herbie Andrews who finished 9th and Edward Latter Casas, who came in 10th.

Three of our M5 runners progressed to the County Round. Brilliantly paced runs from Minnie Andrews and Amelie Ivie saw them come 2nd and 3rd. While Finn Kaiser measured his effort to perfection, finishing in 10th.

Well done to everyone who ran and particular congratulations to those 14 runners mentioned who will compete for a Norfolk vest next Tuesday at Wymondham College.
