During the Amnesty Variety Evening last Friday, a packed Blake Studio was treated to a fabulous display of talent from a wide range of performers: pupils, guests from Sri Lanka and members of staff. There was an abundance of dynamic dancing, stunning singing and magnificent music-making.
The theme of this year’s show was compassion. The audience were invited to consider the words of three inspirational figures:
Love and Compassion are necessities, not luxuries.
Without them, humanity cannot survive.
- Dalai Lama
The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion, and the will to help others.
- Albert Schweitzer
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour, and some style.
- Maya Angelou
Through the generous donations of those attending, over £400 was raised. This money will be spent on the following projects:
· The Nandana Werapitiya Village Fund in Sri Lanka
· English Plus refugee support in Norwich
· The Norwich School Bicycle Resurrection Project, which provides renovated bicycles to local people in need.
