Bibi Campbell (M5) shares the inspiration behind her work that is being exhibited at NUA...
"As part of my coursework for 2D Design we had to undertake a series of photographic shoots.
One was in response to a school trip to the Cambridge Classical Museum, where I photographed some of the ancient sculptures. I was hit by their amazing contrast to the colours in the museum building, so my photos try to capture a balance of the subject matter and the background. I used harsh crops in my composition to make the subject matter stand out and the leave the viewer wanting to see more. The other was a self-directed shoot in theme with the human figure aspect of the museum, and I chose to photograph my grandfather, who is a well-respected hairdresser — he has an amazing face and a good fashion sense. The portraits tried to capture this, whilst also using strong contrast to help sculpt the photograph.
After completing the work I noticed the entry details for the NUA Beyond the Frame competition and chose 3 pieces of work to submit. I am happy to have been selected for the exhibition, and to see my work amongst the other shortlisted entries in The East Gallery at Norwich University of the Arts."
