Travelling Back To The Stone Age

05 October 2023

Visitors from the Stone Age came to Norwich Lower School this week and invited Lower 2 into their animal hide tent. They told them the story of humans over hundreds of thousands of years, from the Paleolithic Era to the Bronze Age, a story reflected in the rich paintings decorating the interior of their tent.

Edith Eccles reports:

"During Stone Age Day we learnt what materials they used. They used quite a lot of leather, which is cow skin. They also used fox skins as mats for sitting on. They used sheepskin to keep warm.

We also learnt about their diet. Quite a lot of their diet was eating meat and fish. To get their food they hunted with spears. To cook their food they put it on long sticks over a fire and kept turning it. We tried some of the fish that was cooked over a fire, which was my favourite part of the day.

I would not like to live in the Stone Age because I like to wear my clothes and I like living in my warm house!"

James Osbaldeston adds:

"I really enjoyed passing around the tools and my favourite tool was a spearhead that was 2 million years old!  They used the spears to kill Deers and black sheep for food and clothes.

I found the Stone Age man really interesting and enjoyed him telling us how the Stone Age ended and about the evil stone. We also tried some fresh Stone Age fish which tasted horrible. I also liked how the tent was set up because it had a bright red fire in the middle and there were furry animal skins on the floor. In the Stone Age to make fire they rubbed stones together which lit some straw and they built a fire.  We shouted, "Fire brother comer!"

It was lots of fun being a Stone Age person for the day."
