A Sky full of Stars as Lower School Chamber Choir sings at the O2

31 January 2024

Yesterday, members of the Lower School Chamber Choir journeyed to London to take part in the largest children’s choir in the World as they combined with well over 9000 other children at the Young Voices 24 event at the prestigious O2 Arena.

This concert was the final concert in the series in London and promised to be a truly exciting and epic event, and it certainly lived up to expectations.

After a long coach trip, quick lunch break and Head of Music Mr Vine pinching the sweets, it was time to enter the Arena for the afternoon rehearsal.

The children had been busy in Choir rehearsals at the Lower School, learning all the repertoire for Young Voices and it was time to hear how it all sounded with everyone singing.  A truly amazing sound echoed through the Arena!

After rehearsals it was time for a well-earned rest and packed tea before getting ready for the big concert.  The lights went down and the whole Arena twinkled with tiny torchlights creating the most magical atmosphere.

Then it was all about the singing!  Songs from Moana, Matilda, and Phineas & Ferb together with huge Medleys featuring traditional Spirituals and Gospel songs and a special ‘Walking Medley’ with songs from The Police, Katrina and the Waves and Was Not Was.  It was wonderful to see the children and accompanying staff really enjoy themselves and get into the Young Voices spirit – lots of jumping around and dancing in the aisles.  Finally, a tribute to the late great Tina Turner which raised the roof and brought the concert to a close.

Head of Music Mr Vine said ‘ what an unforgettable evening and one that every member of the Chamber Choir will remember for a long time to come – they sang their hearts out and were part of something incredibly special.  A big thank you to all of LS Chamber Choir for their hard work, thank you to all the staff members that came on the trip and a big thank you to all the parents and guardians who came to the O2 to watch – what a night and what a sky full of Stars!’
