Ms Ling Offered A Space To Learn About Outer Space!
May 2, 2024
Ms Ling's Space Masterclasses on May 2 were a roaring success! Mrs Ling tells us a little about how it went and her role as a Space Advocate below;
"Space to Learn is a national project, featuring high-quality, curriculum-based activities free of charge to schools across the UK. The programme uses the exciting context of space to inspire and broaden the horizons of the next generation and is funded by the UK Space Agency.
One day per week, I am seconded to the National Space Academy as a Space Advocate as part of this programme, visiting schools and colleges throughout East Anglia. Pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 have taken part in Masterclasses based on a range of topics related to space. In June, each U4 class will take part in a half day Masterclass.
As part of the role, I have been provided with a large amount of apparatus and materials (including a sample of moon rock, a used pressure suit and helmet, an infra-red camera). It seemed like a good opportunity to share this with NS staff and their families.
On Tuesday 2 May, Mrs Goodwin and I organised two staff family sessions. It was great to see such interest! We launched rockets, handled moon rock and a meteorite, made telescopes and saw how satellites can track warm water through the oceans, amongst other things. There is now a rocket on the roof of HFH as a result of some very successful construction!
There are plans for further sessions later in the year."
