Lower 1 Visit the Bridewell Museum
April 28, 2026
Lower 1 enjoyed a wonderful and enriching trip to the Bridewell Museum to learn all about the remarkable life and achievements of Florence Nightingale.
The visit gave the children an exciting opportunity to step back in time and explore the world of nursing and healthcare during the Victorian era through a range of engaging, hands-on activities.
Throughout the day, the children took part in many interactive experiences linked to Florence Nightingale’s life and work. They carefully made their own lamps, inspired by the famous lantern Florence carried as she walked through hospital wards at night caring for wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. The children also packed a nurse’s medical bag, learning about the important tools and equipment nurses would have needed to help patients many years ago. This activity helped them understand how caring for people has changed over time and why Florence Nightingale became such an important figure in history.
One of the highlights of the trip was meeting “Florence” herself. Through storytelling and role play, the children discovered what life was like during her time and learned about the challenges she faced while improving hospitals and nursing care. They listened carefully to fascinating facts, asked thoughtful questions, and enjoyed finding out how Florence’s hard work and determination helped so many people.
The trip was filled with excitement, curiosity, and memorable learning experiences. The children were enthusiastic throughout the day and thoroughly enjoyed exploring history in such a practical and engaging way. It was a fun, educational, and inspiring visit that helped bring their classroom learning to life.
