ON Society Launches an Exciting New Series of Networking Events

27 September 2022

The ON Society is delighted to launch an exciting new series of networking events, which aim to inspire and educate, covering a wide range of careers that our sixth form pupils are invited to attend.

Kicking off the series is the talk ‘Women In The Media’, with details as follows:

When: Thursday 23 March, 18:00 to 20:30

Where: Second Home, The Auditorium, Spitalfields, 68-80 Hanbury Street, London, E1 5JL

Host: Hannah Talbot (ON 09-11)

Panel: Jane Garvey, Rhianna Dhillon, Katie Strick and Harriet Line

The Norwich School community and members of the Sixth Form are invited to join the ON Society on Thursday 23 November for the first of an exciting new series of events.

The first of these is ‘Women in the Media’ – the aim is to hear from a panel of four women; inspiring broadcasters and journalists, hosted by ON Hannah Talbot.

Hear from and meet some of the most prolific people in the media industry.

If you’re keen to simply expand your network, get tips on how to get into a career in media or have an interest in the media (print journalism, broadcasting, music or production) or just have a super entertaining evening – this is for you.

Hannah Talbot is a producer at Sony Music UK and will be asking a panel of equally brilliant women:

  • How to get your foot in the door
  • What it’s like to be a woman working in the media
  • And how best to succeed in this industry

The all-female star panel includes:

JANE GARVEY

The formidable BBC presenter and podcaster, Jane Garvey, was the first voice on BBC 5Live when the station launched in 1994 – and went on to host Woman’s Hour on BBC Radio 4 for 13 years. She was the co-host of the hugely successful, award-winning  podcast Fortunately and has co-written ‘Did I Say That Out Loud?’. Jane left the BBC in October 2022 and says she is now almost recovered! She works at Times Radio co-hosting a daily live afternoon radio show and the podcast Off Air with Fi Glover.

RHIANNA DHILLON

Rhianna Dhillon has been a film critic for 12 years, beginning her career at BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra as their in-house film critic. Now a film and TV critic on BBC 6Music's Breakfast Show with Lauren Laverne, Rhianna is also the BBC 5Live Film reviewer and hosts the PodPod Podcast. Rhianna moderates events and Q&As for BAFTA, Disney, the BFI and others.

KATIE STRICK

Senior Features writer and Commissioning Editor at the London Evening Standard, Katie has been an investigative reporter, and now writes features – covering travel, lifestyle, health among other topics, as well as writing comment pieces for the newspaper. Katie has worked on breaking news stories as well as longer-form in-depth pieces and has an incredible insight into the world of print journalism.

HARRIET LINE

Harriet started out as editor-in-chief of her student newspaper, and is now Deputy Political Editor of the Daily Mail. She works inside Parliament, but regularly travels with the Prime Minister overseas. Harriet also spent a few weeks reporting from Ukraine last year. She previously worked for the Press Association as Deputy Political Editor, and prior to that covered general news - reporting on the royals, crime and everything in between! Harriet is an extraordinary journalist and a force to be reckoned with, watch out Laura Kuenssberg!
