Former Head of Department, Bob Worley (NS 74-90) receives Royal Society of Chemistry Medal.

16 September 2022

A chemistry advisor since 1991 for CLEAPSS in the UK, Mr Robert Worley FRSC is the winner of the 2021 Excellence in Secondary and Further Education Prize. This award is in recognition of the significant and sustained contributions he’s made to the development and promotion of safe, practical resources for teachers worldwide, especially in the field of microscale chemistry.

Miniaturising experiments means school chemistry will be both safer and accessible, with the potential to make lessons more time efficient. It’s a driving factor behind environmental and sustainability issues too.

Bob told us, “It was not only an honour to receive the Royal Society of Chemistry Medal…but a delight to show Professor Gillian Reid some of the procedures at our new CLEAPSS premises. In 45 minutes we carried out over 9 procedures and ended up firing the hydrogen/oxygen rocket.”

Congratulations Bob on your well-deserved prize!
