Pumpkin Parties Celebrate Harvest in Infant Outdoor Learning
October 15, 2024
This October, Infant pupils enjoyed a series of fun and educational Pumpkin Parties to celebrate the harvest season. These special events gave young learners the chance to taste the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labour, after a summer spent growing produce during their outdoor learning lessons.
The festivities began with pupils scrubbing the soil off the potatoes they had grown themselves. Once cleaned, the potatoes were carefully wrapped in foil and placed in the fire, ready to cook in the embers while the children got busy with other activities.
Next, they took part in a creative game of 'Roll a Pumpkin,' where dice rolls determined how they would design their pumpkins. As they crafted their pumpkin masterpieces, they sipped on delicious hot chocolate, complete with marshmallows for an extra treat!
The fun continued with an exciting game of "Pass the Pumpkin," where teams raced to see who could carry their pumpkin across the outdoor classroom the fastest. Laughter filled the air as pupils cheered on their classmates in this friendly competition.
After the games, it was time to enjoy a warm bowl of pumpkin soup, made from the very pumpkins they had helped to grow. Pupils also guessed the weight of the enormous pumpkin that had flourished in the school garden.
The grand finale was tasting the homegrown potatoes, now perfectly roasted in the fire. It was a delicious and fitting end to a wonderful celebration, where pupils learned first-hand about the journey from farm to fork.
