Mrs Nicky Fairweather

Nicky Fairweather is Principal Deputy Head at Norwich School, responsible for the day-to-day life of the Senior School. She works closely with colleagues across the community as part of the Senior Leadership Team, and finds the through-school environment both energising and inspiring.

Nicky's first teaching experience was during a gap year in Japan with Project Trust, where her love of travel also began. This led her to Geography at Newcastle University, further teaching experience in Thailand, and then a PGCE at Bristol University before a decade in the British maintained sector in London and Bristol. She has taught GCSE and A Level Geography across human and physical domains and has always loved taking pupils into the field – whether in the jungles of Malaysia or the Norfolk and Suffolk coast!

Nicky's senior leadership journey took her to Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia as Deputy Head, and then to Exeter School in Devon as Deputy Head Pastoral. She joined Norwich School in September 2019.

Having worked in safeguarding since 2010, Nicky is Designated Safeguarding Lead at Norwich School and works with a well-resourced and experienced team of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads across the whole school. She oversees pastoral care, safeguarding and pupil wellbeing in the Senior School and is thankful for her dedicated and enthusiastic colleagues who are committed to the individual growth and progress of all pupils. Nicky and her team report into the governors' Safeguarding and Wellbeing Committee.

Nicky's educational philosophy is straightforward  to prepare each pupil for their individual future, valuing the academic profile they build and celebrating the person they become. She enjoys spending time speaking with pupils and staff, listening to their views and experiences of school life, and continues to love teaching, leading assemblies, watching performances and creating opportunities for pupil voice and agency. Outside her role at Norwich, Nicky serves as a school governor and contributes to national education networks, including the HMC EDI Advisory Group.
