Dr Laurence Guymer joined the History Department at Norwich School in 2026 from Winchester College, where he was a housemaster, Head of History, and Head of Year. He has taught A-Level and GCSE History for many years. And in the distant past, he was a post-doctoral lecturer in Modern British History at UEA. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He is an historian of British foreign policy in the nineteenth century, with a particular interest in policy formulation and the role of ambassadors and consular agents. His publications include ‘Curing the Sick Man: Sir Henry Bulwer and the Ottoman Empire, 1858-1865’ (2010). Outside the classroom, he enjoys theatre (he has appeared in, and directed, many productions), football (more the watching these days than the playing), and running.
