25th Anniversary of European Day of Languages
September 26, 2025
2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the European Day of Languages, a celebration of Europe's rich linguistic and cultural diversity and a powerful reminder of the importance of language learning for democratic participation, inclusion and mutual understanding.
Norwich School celebrated this special day last week as pupils across the country and across Europe celebrated in their communities too. Lower 4 heard from Mrs Song and U6 pupils Lottie Clements in a special assembly about the impact that languages have had on their lives. Tutor groups took part in a quiz to identify the different languages spoken by members of our school community as well as a treasure to find flags around buildings in the Close. At break-time pupils came to the Blake Studio to try out some German tongue-twisters and deciphered French treasure hunt clues to win some prizes. To finish off, we all enjoyed a special celebratory lunch in the refectory on Friday, featuring Portuguese Piri Piri Chicken and a Belgian waffle for dessert.
The Languages departments enjoyed sharing their love of languages and the importance for us all in recognising what an essential role languages play in an inclusive and tolerant society.
