The Wonders of World Book Day

07 March 2024

Senior School pupils were met with some unusual sights when they arrived at classrooms for lessons on World Book Day. Doors across the school had been decorated as book covers in celebration of books and reading.

Several of the books were particularly appropriate: Mrs Pywell’s door became the cover of the book Lessons in Chemistry, Dr Boutemy’s door was from the book We are all made of molecules. It didn’t stop there – the Maths department was home to Life of Pi and The Square Root of Summer. No prizes for guessing where The Historian and History is all you left me could be found!

The Refectory became – of course – The Hunger Games, Daynes Sports office turned into The Maze Runner, and of course the Dance Studio became home to Angelina Ballerina.

Some teachers chose their favourite books, giving pupils a glimpse of what their reading habits beyond the textbooks looked like.

A trail map of all the doors was available from 4th form tutors and the Library; lots of pupils visited all thirty-six doors and were rewarded with a treat for completing the challenge.

Thanks goes to all the hard work put in by 4th, 5th and 6th Form Reading Group pupils in creating such a stunning set of “doors” in the weeks running up to World Book Day.

Thank you to L6 Pupil and Close Up Photography member, Berry Ward, for her photos from the day!
