Mother Tongue Other Tongue Poetry Competition

12 March 2024

Noah Yassin (U4) tells us about last week's trip to Cambridge:

On Thursday 12 March the finalists from Norwich School got the bus to Cambridge for the ‘Mother Tongue Other Tongue’ poetry competition presentation evening. We arrived at the Murray Edwards College in the heart of Cambridge. We were welcomed and almost straight away we went into a lecture room with other finalists from many schools from the East of England. We listened to a very interesting talk about the advantages of being bilingual or multilingual. The talk was very informative and inspired me to continue to progress with my language learning skills.

After the talk the presentation ceremony began - I was excited to find out who the winners were! They read out the winners for each age group for both the ‘Mother Tongue’ and then ‘Other Tongue’ categories. The winners were then invited to read out their poems and it was lovely to hear different languages from all over the world. Norwich School pupils did really well with several winners in each category and I was surprised when my name was called out! It was an excellent experience and great celebration of language.
