Spotlight on Staff : An Interview With Ms Ward: A Long Service Staff Member

Starting off a new series about our long service staff members, we hear from Ms Ward. She is a Classics teacher who joined Norwich School 20 years ago. Read on to find out more...

Ms Ward is a teacher in the Classics Department. Alongside her teaching, she runs the Norwich School Community Service Programme. Over the years, she has been involved in various other areas of school life including Duke of Edinburgh and Young Enterprise. Ms Ward described running Community Service as “an inspirational new arena.”

For Ms Ward, teaching Classics is so varied as she jumps from Latin to Greek, literature to culture. She says she loves that eureka moment when a student just ‘gets’ why something is interesting. Ms Ward came to Norwich School in 2002 to do her PGCE and she has stayed teaching here ever since.

Ms Ward’s top memories of Norwich School include many of the varied and eclectic assemblies she has witnessed! These include Gavin Sumner baking a cake in a microwave and another where a baby lamb was walked down the aisle of the Cathedral to symbolise the lamb of God.

The best thing about working about Norwich School, Ms Ward says, is the colleagues and pupils who are all kind, funny and interesting.

One of Ms Ward’s favourite spots in the school is being able to sit under the trees in the Upper Close in the summer. However, her top spot is the Chapel where she got married!
