New Saxophones in the Music Department thanks to the Friends of Norwich School

The music department are immensely grateful to the Friends of Norwich School who have funded the addition of tenor and baritone saxophones to the department’s roster of loan instruments. This has made a huge impact already, enabling more pupils to be able to take up and practise these instruments. Both are being used on a weekly basis during rehearsals for Senior Jazz Band and Saxology groups. We are fortunate to have 4 tenor saxophone players at present, and the success of the annual Jazz Night in March 2023 is a testament to the impact of this gift from the Friends.

In addition to regular educational slots, the tenor and baritone are used in Cathedral assemblies for occasional band performances and will also be played a considerable amount in the Gather Arts Festival performances. This will include a bespoke recording session and performance showcase, the annual Gala variety show, and the Royal Norfolk Show.

Andrew Weeks Head of Instrumental Music & Composition, Andrew Weeks says, “we are extremely grateful to the Friends of Norwich School for the financial contribution to support music making in the Jazz and contemporary arena.”
