New Greenpower Electric Car Team, funded by the Friends of Norwich School

Norwich School has a new and exciting Greenpower Electric Car Team thanks to Friends of Norwich School funding. Setting up this racing team required purchasing helmets, race suits, racing gloves and a tool kit to be used both this year, and in the future. In addition, funding was required for a 10ft x 10ft double door work-shed by the Refectory, where the car will be stored.

The pupils in the Greenpower Electric Car team learn about designing, building and running a website, fundraising, publicity and team management as well as the construction and racing of the car itself. So far, the team of 14 pupils have been working on important administrative tasks whilst waiting for the construction space to be finished. It is hoped the team will grow further, providing an exciting opportunity for all pupils with an interest in engineering.

The team will present the car to the whole school once it is built at the end of June, around the time it will be raced at Lotus/Hethel. The team are hoping to be successful and ultimately attend the 'international finals' at Goodwood, though maybe not this year!

A message from the Greenpower Electric Car Team:

“We are really grateful for this funding. It is already making a difference to the team, as the idea of the racing becomes more 'real' and when the helmets arrived, there was a renewed energy and purpose in the team.”
