Meet the Red Gowns : An Interview with Pieter de Lange – Head of School, Clubs and Societies Lead

With the start of a new school year comes a new cohort of red gowns and prefects, and this year there is even more change as we welcome 10 red gowns. In this new series of blog posts, we meet your red gowns for academic year 2022/23. Starting with Head of School, Pieter de Lange...

Pieter is this year’s Head of School as well as being the First Team Rugby Captain. His role includes helping with the Clubs and Societies Fair, working with the school councils and listening to the changes pupils want to see around the school, having already spoken to a couple of pupils with ideas for new clubs and societies.

Pieter is studying three A-Levels: Chemistry, Biology and Maths. Whilst he really enjoys Science, he admits his plans for the future remain “up in the air.” For this reason, he hopes to undertake a GAP placement on the completion of his A-Levels.

Pieter is extremely excited for the year ahead as Head of School. In particular, he is looking forward to all the interesting conversations he will have with the new people he will meet in his role. In his first week as Head of School, Pieter attended a Tatler School Guide Event in London and was amazed at the range of remarkable people he met on the day. Pieter hopes to use these opportunities to “absorb knowledge.”

At the end of our interview, I asked Pieter where his favourite place in the school is. He instantly replied “the OMR” (Old Music Room) which is a lively sixth-from common room with comfy seating and a café. He particularly likes the space as it is an opportunity for Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth to mix.
