FemSoc's Inspirational Women - Day 2, Mae Jemison

This week, to celebrate International Women’s Day, FemSoc are showcasing some of their most inspirational women, on day 2 we have Mae Jemison.

Mae Jemison is a doctor and NASA astronaut. She became the first Black woman to enter space when she served on the crew of the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992. Despite facing discrimination in her field, she excelled academically, earning degrees in Chemical Engineering and Medicine. Fluent in multiple languages, she served in the Peace Corps as a medical officer before joining NASA in 1987. 

After her historic space mission, she left NASA to pursue other ventures, including founding The Jemison Group and teaching. Jemison created educational programs and received numerous awards for her contributions to science and education. Currently, she leads the 100 Year Starship project and serves on several boards.
