Benji Stevenson Demonstrates that he is not Clowning Around When it Comes to Circus Skills

When Benji Stevenson (L5) attended a circus skills workshop with the school's dance company, in Trinity Term last year, he never imagined it would lead to a new hobby! He tells us more here:

"In the Trinity Term last year, Miss Hacking took the dance company to the Oak Street Circus Centre, to experience dance and movement in a different way. As well as floor work, such as handstands, cartwheels and headstands the workshop gave us the chance to experience tightrope and the wire, which tested our balance, and also the silks and the trapeze, where we learned how to flip over, under and around the equipment. It is fair to say I loved it and I have been going every Saturday ever since!

The Circus Centre is based in an old church that has been converted into a circus skills studio; the fact it is a church is great, as it has high enough ceilings for the aerial hoops, hammocks, silks and trapeze. Not everything we do is high, as they teach skills such as diablo, manipulation, juggling and stilts, but I love the silks, as it requires special skills and techniques which I can work on to get better, meaning I can go higher and do more tricks.

On 17 December, I finally got to show my family what I had been working on during a live show, in which I performed floor work with hoops before taking to the air for a silk routine. I can't wait to go back in the New Year."
