Upper 1 Explore The Wonders of Space

07 May 2024

Upper One welcomed Andy the Astronomer with great enthusiasm as he brought his impressive Space Dome to the school hall as we have been learning all about Space in this Trinity Term in the classroom. The pupils had the opportunity to lie down inside the dome and watch a documentary detailing the catastrophic impact of an asteroid on Earth, leading to the onset of the ice age. This visual presentation provided a vivid insight into the Earth's ancient history and the significant role celestial bodies play in shaping our planet's destiny. Following the film, Upper One had the chance to observe various constellations projected onto the dome's ceiling. Andy engaged them with stories about famous constellations, such as the sea serpent and Medusa, linking them to ancient myths and legends. This interactive experience allowed pupils to not only appreciate the beauty of the night sky but also to understand the cultural significance of these celestial patterns.

In addition to exploring mythological constellations, pupils were introduced to the zodiac constellations. They were fascinated by the alignment of stars and the stories behind each zodiac sign. Andy shared intriguing facts about the zodiac constellations, sparking curiosity and prompting numerous questions from excited Upper One. Throughout the session, Andy demonstrated an impressive depth of knowledge about astronomy and eagerly answered every question our pupils had. His expertise and passion for the subject inspired the pupils to delve deeper into the mysteries of the cosmos. As the session concluded, pupils left the space dome with a newfound appreciation for astronomy and the wonders of the universe. Andy's visit not only provided them with valuable knowledge but also ignited their curiosity and imagination.
