Lower Three take part in an exciting Outdoor Learning Expedition

20 October 2022

Wednesday 19 October saw the inaugural Outdoor Learning Expedition, taken up by the intrepid L3W.

For the last 6 weeks they have been learning a series of skills including shelter building, fire lighting, canoeing and team building activities. The whole day expedition was the culmination of the Half Term's activities and centered around their attempt to foil the plans of a criminal genius who had targeted the Lower School. The group were tasked with lashing together canoes to form 6 person rafts and then paddling 5km against a challenging headwind towards Whitlingham Lake.

Once there, the pupils applied the pioneering skills they had mastered to overcome a series of challenges and then locate hidden clues in the nearby woodland. These clues in turn were essential to the team's final mission objective - to defuse a device hidden in the Scout HQ by the devious mastermind which, if detonated, would release a noxious chemical that would release a noxious chemical that would wipe their memories!

L3W did not disappoint - they met all of the day's objectives and managed to stop the countdown timer by cutting the coloured wires in the right order with just 31 minutes left on the clock. They demonstrated resilience, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills throughout the day.

A big thank you goes out to everyone in the Outdoor Leadership team who would in turn like to congratulate Mr. Worton's class for all they have achieved over the last couple of months.
