Week Commencing 27/04/2020

Monday 27th April

Here is Dr Wolsey's welcome for the second week of term.

Challenge for the week:

During tutorial today we talked about ways to help lonely people, especially in these strange times.

Floriana (Boo) Harrod now has 10 letters ready to deliver to the vulnerable people in her village with messages of solidarity and friendship.

This week your Fourth Form Blog challenge is to do something nice for someone in your community. You could write letters, leave a sign or picture outside your house/in your window for your neighbours to see. Be as creative as you like. We’d love to hear of how you get on.

Easter Activities

Over Easter, Fourth formers have been keeping themselves busy.

Watch Zoe Hornberger make a lava lamp using ingredients found at home

Zoe also made a tornado in a bottle!

Boo Harrod showed her determination when her experiments didn't go as planned.

Sometime the best discoveries happen when things don't go as expected!

In other science related news, Aaron Abu successfully makes some “instant ice”. Using ice cubes as a nucleation point for some super-cooled water, he created this interesting tower of ice

From a Biology class practical to her own garden, Zoe Hornberger has tended this plant from seed germination to fully-fledged plant!

Kyriel Fynn’s Easter activity, a sturdy-looking bird box. Great work, Kyriel! With a bit of luck you’ll have some feathered visitors soon!

Will Jackson has taken some lovely landscape photos and Ryan Roberts shares some delicious-looking muffins from his Easter break.

Pets were a good source of fun over Easter it seems! Katherine Jackson got into the creative mood with a feline photoshoot, and Natalie Saunders got some good exercise with her dog. Looks to me like she’s winning the race!

From mugs to masks, Mrs Slade has been busy over Easter putting her skills to good use! U4V, Mrs Slade has raised the bar…How do you respond? Send in some photos/videos of you building something. Let’s see what you can do!

Tuesday 28th April

Ted-talk Tuesday

This week we have “How little people can make a big difference” by Charlie Cooper. See how one little person made a big difference at his school.

TED Talk:  “How little people can make a big difference”

Perhaps we can take something from this message and share our ideas of how we can help those who struggle to make new friends. Please get in touch if you have any ideas you’d like to share.

Thursday 30th April

How about adding another dimension to your Fitness Challenge?

A 10 year old girl has decided to do one keepy up for every single key worker. That's 7.1 Million. She needs help so she wants people to do keepy ups and send in videos of themselves doing it.

If you're a keen footballer or just want to help raise money for key worker charities during these tough times, then help 10-year-old Imogen do 7.1 million keepy uppies! One for every key worker in the country! It'll take her 97 years without your help!

Read about Imogen's story here.

Friday 1st May

The microscopic creatures known as Tardigrades, or water bears, can survive in space for 10 days and for 10 years without water!

Pretty good candidates for inter-planetary travel perhaps…
