William Pank selected for prestigious world class sailing event

05 October 2017

Norwich School sailor William Pank (M5P) is one of only 16 sailors worldwide who have been invited to compete in the 'Renaissance Re Junior Gold Cup' event. William is the sole representative for Great Britain in the event, which is staged later this month in Bermuda.

William, who races in the Optimist class, had a hugely successful summer that began with securing 19th place at the Opti Worlds in Thailand in a fleet that included 281 of the world’s best Optimist sailors from 62 countries. On his return to the UK he won the Great Britain selection trials, as well as the Inland Optimist Championships and the Late Summer Championships. Consequently he is now ranked number 1 in the Optimist class in Great Britain.

This year 16 of the top sailing nations in the world have been chosen to send their #1 ranked sailor to the Renaissance Re Junior Gold Cup, and William has been chosen as the Great Britain representative. The regatta represents an opportunity for Bermuda’s top sailing talent to test themselves against some of the best sailors from around the world.
